New Culture Secretary to speak at autumn conference

The Rt Hon Jeremy Wright MP, the new Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport will address delegates at the Society of Editors conference in Manchester in November.

Wright, who was appointed Secretary of State in July 2019, was previously Attorney General from 2014 to 2018 and was elected the Conservative MP for Kenilworth and Southam in 2010. He will address media figures at the conference on Monday 5 November.

The event, a must-attend in the media calendar, will take place at the iconic Lowry Hotel and will focus this year on The Trust Factor - and How to Fund it. Paul Dacre, who announced he was stepping aside as Editor this year after 26-years at the helm of the Daily Mail, will deliver the prestigious Society of Editors Lecture on the evening of Sunday 4 November. Katharine Viner, Editor-in-chief of The Guardian and Lloyd Embley, Editor-in-Chief of the Mirror titles will also deliver a keynote address on Monday 5. Further speakers will be announced in due course.

Wright studied at the Inns of Court School of Law and was called to the bar in 1996, specialising in criminal law (both prosecution and defence).

He served as a member of the Justice Committee and founded the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia in 2007. He was made an Opposition Whip in 2007 and became a Government Whip in 2010. He was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Justice in 2012.
