New international category added to Media Freedom Awards

Posted on: June 30, 2022 by Claire Meadows

A new category recognising the International News Media Organisation of the Year has been added to the Society of Editors’ Media Freedom Awards

The new award, added in response to demand by international news organisations and platforms, joins 18 other free to enter categories in the Society’s inaugural media freedom awards launched earlier this month.

Open to all international news organisations with their head office outside of the UK, the International News Media Organisation of the Year will be awarded to the organisation or platform that has consistently held power to account, championed the freedoms or rights of others and demonstrated a commitment to media freedom.

The easy to enter awards are open until 27 July 2022 and are open to all UK-based journalists, news media organisations and platforms working in print, online, broadcast, mobile, audio, or any other news delivery format. The awards have been launched to celebrate the crucial role that UK journalists play in promoting media freedom, championing the public’s right to know and holding power to account on the worldwide platform. The awards will culminate in a high-profile awards ceremony later this year on 9 November 2022 in London.
