Travelling to Cambridge

Transport to and from Clare College will be provided to all delegates who have booked the full conference package including accommodation from the Tamburlaine Hotel.

It is worth noting that much of Cambridge City Centre is pedestrianised. Do please call us on 01223 304080 if you need any assistance or advice regarding travel.

By Train

There is a fast and frequent rail service from London King’s Cross and London Liverpool Street through to Cambridge Central station. There are also excellent connections from Scotland and the North via Peterborough, and regional services from Birmingham and the Midlands, East Anglia and the Northwest.

The Tamburlaine Hotel, located on Station Road, is a one minute walk from the station. 

Cambridge Station is approximately a 25 minute walk away from Clare College, but buses run every 8 minutes into the centre of Cambridge, or taxis are available for hire at Cambridge Station.

Drummer Street, the main central Cambridge Bus Station, is a 15-minute walk to Clare College.

If taking a taxi be sure to ask to be dropped off at Clare College, Memorial Court in Queen's Road.

By Car

From the South and from London, Cambridge is a short trip up the M11 motorway. From the North, the A1 and M1 link to the A14 dual carriageway straight into the city, and from the East and West, the A14 again takes you to Cambridge.

There are five world class Park & Ride sites located on the outskirts of the City that provide cheap parking and a swift and frequent bus ride to the City Centre. Madingley Park and Ride drops off at Bridge Street which is the closest set down point to Clare College (approximately 12 minute's walk).

There is limited parking available at Clare College but this is on a first come first served basis and must be booked in advance via the Society of Editors. We have negotiated an all-day rate for delegates. Please contact us on 01223 304080 or office@societyofeditors.org to secure a space.

By Coach / Bus

There are frequent services between London's Victoria Coach Station and Drummer Street Bus Station which is a approximately a 15-minute walk from Clare College.

Alternatively you can use one of five park & ride sites which offer ample, cheap parking and frequent runs to and from the city centre.

The Babraham service includes Cambridge Central Station in the route.

Bridge Street drop off  is the closest set down point (approximately 12 minute's walk).

All services stop in Central Cambridge at either Downing Street, St Andrew’s Street, Emmanuel Street or Drummer Street which are all in walking distance of Clare College.

By Air

London Stansted Airport is the closest major airport, about 25 miles from Cambridge (35 minutes by car).

Rail services to Cambridge are operated by Greater Anglia and run approximately each hour and take about 30 minutes. You can view a recent timetable here (PDF).
