The Reframing Disability in News programme – in partnership with the BBC’s 50:50 Project – supports disabled people to become expert contributors to broadcast news through media training and other resources. The initiative will also support newsrooms and journalists to address biases and barriers to approaching and interviewing disabled experts. The programme’s industry-first mentoring scheme matches early-stage and experienced mentees who consider themselves to have a disability, impairment, learning difference or long-term condition with disabled BBC mentors from across the UK.
