The Society of Editors Media Freedom Conference 2023 – The Future of News took place at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, London City on 15 March 2023.
The event saw a keynote address from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the importance of media coverage of the war in Ukraine as well as a speech from the BBC’s Clive Myrie on worldwide threats to press freedom.
The high-profile conference brought together more than 150 editors and journalists to debate the future of news and heard from eminent journalists and industry experts including Alison Phillips, Editor at the Daily Mirror; Ben Taylor, Editor at The Sunday Times; Rachel Johnson, Journalist and Presenter; Julia Hartley-Brewer, Journalist and TalkTV and talkRADIO presenter; Gabriel Pogrund, Whitehall Editor at The Sunday Times; Rizwana Hamid, Director at the Centre for Media Monitoring; Sarah Whitehead, Deputy Head of Newsgathering at Sky News; Cait FitzSimons, 5 News Editor and many more.
