Regional Press Awards Shortlist

SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED FOR THE REGIONAL PRESS AWARDS FOR 2018

Shortlists for the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards for 2018 have been announced.

Celebrating the best of British regional and local newspaper journalism in 2018 for print, online and any other news platform, a full list of shortlisted entries appears below.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony over lunch to be held at the IET, Savoy Place in London on Friday 17 May. Tickets and tables can now be booked to attend the event that celebrates excellence in the regional and local press.

The Society of Editors, supported by Camelot since 2001, organises the awards on behalf of the industry. The awards are made possible by headline sponsors Facebook and United Utilities. Other sponsors include Cision, Google, Foot Anstey, HoldtheFrontPage, the News Media Association, Press Association, Asda, Penny Appeal and No1 Lounges.

The event will also see the awarding of the Making a Difference ~ People’s Choice public vote organised by Local Media Works, part of News Media Association, for the Journalism Matters Campaign.

This year will also see an important new category: The Cathryn Nicoll Interviewer of the Year Award. Set up by the News Media Association (NMA), the Award has been launched in memory of Cathryn Nicoll who held the position of news editor at the Croydon Advertiser during her career as a journalist.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by LBC radio presenter Nick Ferrari.

Executive Director Ian Murray said; “We have seen record entries for this year’s Regional Press Awards, and I know that the judges have had a tremendously difficult task in choosing the nominated journalists and papers from such an excellent field of entries.”

A full list of shortlisted entries in the Society of Editors Press Awards appears below.
