Applications reopen for emergency funding for community radios

Posted on: July 21, 2020 by admin

Ofcom has opened a second round of applications for emergency funding for community radio stations facing severe financial difficulties during the Covid-19 crisis.

The funding is intended to help community radio stations meet the costs of providing vital programming to local communities, after serving millions of people during the public health crisis.

This second wave of funding is worth a total of £73,658 and each applicant will be able to apply for a maximum grant of up to £7,500.

The first round of funding was awarded in May and gave £333,125 to 81 applicants – nearly one third of stations in the UK.

Grants were awarded independently from Ofcom by the Community Radio Fund Panel and the average grant given was £4,113.

The funding is a result of a £400,000 grant made available by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s early release of funds from the Community Radio Fund.
