Behind Local News is highlighting the ‘inspiring’ journalists who will make up the Public Interest News List ahead of the List’s official launch on Sunday.
Announced as part of #JournalismMatters week from Monday 5 until Sunday 11 October, the Public Interest News List will be comprised of 100+ journalists and publications who were nominated for ensuring that who work in local media are proud to be associated with the industry.
Nominations for the Public Interest News List were opened in September and, supported by the Society of Editors, National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) and News Media Association (NMA), called for nominations of journalists and publications that have inspired others and made a difference through their public interest reporting.
Over the next week, Behind Local News will be highlighting five of the Public Interest News List nominations every day with journalists from the Isle of Wight County Press, BirminghamLive, Tottenham Community Press, York Press and JPIMedia Data and Investigations Team (photo) highlighted on Monday. The List is not a competition or a ranked list – it is an opportunity to celebrate the inspiring journalists and publications that serve communities across the UK.
Alongside individual journalists, Behind Local News will also be publishing a list of Public Interest News teams, and also a list of the journalism tutors who have inspired public interest journalism across the country.
