Daily Express launches ‘Brilliantly British’ campaign for businesses

The Daily Express has launched a two-week campaign to gather public support for British businesses in the run up to Christmas, from well-known national brands to small businesses.

‘Brilliantly British’ has been supported by the Prime Minister who hailed the festive season as an opportunity to transform 2020 from a year to forget to a Christmas to remember.

Mr Johnson said: “It’s fantastic that the Daily Express is encouraging us all to spread that festive cheer around UK producers, growers, manufacturers and retailers by buying Brilliantly British this December.”

With Small Business Saturday taking place tomorrow (December 5), the paper said following the re-opening of non-essential shops in England the campaign drive was an opportunity to explore what independent retailers and producers have to offer.

Announcing the campaign – in partnership with National Lottery operator Camelot – Daily Express columnist Leo McKinstry said: “As this paper will so magnificently highlight over the next fortnight, our country has many of the finest products in the world, from delicious drinks to fabulous fashion.

“The entire campaign is a showcase for the wonderful talent, diversity and imaginativeness of our land,” he added.

As part of the campaign, the Express has also launched a Brilliantly British Photography Competition with a nationwide search to find a positive photograph that captures a modern, diverse and inclusive Britain in 2020. The competition is judged by model Twiggy along with V&A Director Tristram Hunt, The Young Vic’s Artistic Director Kwame Kwei Armah, star of stage and screen Shobna Gulati and award-winning Fleet Street photographer Mike Moore.

The winner, to be announced in January, will see their work displayed in the V&A and printed in Reach newsbrands including the Daily Express and regional titles Manchester Evening News and Liverpool Echo.
