Geordie Greig, editor of the Daily Mail, will deliver the third annual Society of Editors Satchwell Lecture in London in May.
Greig, a prominent figure in the newspaper industry, was appointed as editor of Mail Newspapers in September 2018. He moved from The Mail on Sunday where he had been editor since April 2012.
The Satchwell Lecture takes place at Stationers’ Hall on Monday, May 11 2020 and is free to attend.
Ian Murray, Executive Director of the Society of Editors said: “The Society of Editors Satchwell Lecture has quickly grown a reputation for being a must-attend event in the media calendar and this year will prove no exception.
“We are greatly honoured to have Geordie Greig as our speaker, one of the most influential forces in the UK media today.”
The event will start at 7pm with a reception, followed at 7.30pm by the lecture and a question and answers session with time for networking to follow. The evening will end at 9pm.
The Satchwell Lecture is named for former Society of Editors Executive Director Bob Satchwell who stepped down from his role in March 2017 due to a life-changing illness. Last year’s lecture was delivered by The Times of London editor John Witherow with the inaugural Satchwell Lecture delivered by BBC Director General Lord Tony Hall in 2018.
Although there is no charge for the event, donations towards the Journalists’ Charity will be encouraged.

Geordie Greig became the Editor of Mail Newspapers in September 2018. He moved from The Mail on Sunday where he had been editor since April 2012.
He started his journalistic career as a crime reporter on the South-East London and Kentish Mercury in Deptford. After staff jobs on the Daily Mail and Sunday Today, he joined The Sunday Times in 1987 as a general reporter. He was the New York correspondent for five years and then the paper’s Literary Editor for five years, until he was made Editor of Tatler in August 1999. In March 2009 Geordie joined the London Evening Standard as Editor and he was also appointed in June 2010 Editorial Director of The Independent, The Independent on Sunday and London Evening Standard.
In his 40 years as a journalist he has covered wars, fashion shows, riots, film premieres and interviewed celebrities from Madonna to David Hockney, V.S. Naipaul to Boris Johnson.
He is the critically acclaimed author of ‘The Kingmaker’ and ‘Breakfast with Lucian.’
