More speakers have been announced for next month’s Society of Editors ‘Future of News’ conference.
Considered a major highlight of the industry calendar, the in-person conference will take place on Wednesday 11 May 2022 at Mary Ward House in London.
Joining the programme to discuss engaging new audiences is the BBC’s Digital Director Naja Nielsen as well as Jasper Fulcher, the Telegraph’s Head of Daily Visual Production. Shelley Bishton, Head of Creative Diversity for News UK and Luke Jacobs, Reach plc’s Regional Editor for the South East and New Audiences Editor have also joined the programme to discuss diversity and inclusion. In addition, Ian Birrell, Contributing Editor for foreign reporting and investigations at The Mail on Sunday will join a panel focusing on Ukraine and the challenges of covering the war as well as navigating disinformation. Becky Clay, Head of Invention at Reach plc will also join a discussion looking at the future of paid-for content, platform payments and paywalls.
The newest additions to the programme join Daily Mirror Editor Alison Phillips, former BBC Editorial Director Kamal Ahmed, Guardian journalist Joseph Harker and Warren Nettleford, co-founder of the RTS award-winning youth platform Need to Know who were announced last week.

The conference is a vital forum for the industry to debate and discuss the opportunities for the UK media and I have no doubt that next month’s event will provide a forum for insightful discussions that will translate into practical ideas to take back to newsrooms.”
