The Society of Editors staged a lunch for representatives of the media to meet with former Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Secretary John Whittingdale MP to discuss industry related matters.

The meeting, which was held under Chatham House Rules, took place at Northcliffe House – home of the Mail Group and ESI media.

Topics for discussion included the government’s Online Harms white paper and the Information Commissioner’s Office proposals on age appropriate restrictions for digital content.

Mr Whittingdale also spoke of plans for the Seminar on Media Freedom and Protection of Journalists, which is being staged under his role as Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and will be held in London in September.
