Boris Johnson’s daily coronavirus press conferences are to become ‘virtual’ within days with journalists banned from the room, The Sun has reported.

The decision to change the format of the press conferences comes in a bid to limit the spread of coronavirus in line with social distancing directives.

According to The Sun, trials have been carried out on a new system that would allow the Prime Minister or government ministers to deliver a statement with TV and newspaper journalists able to dial in to the room and to put questions to the PM at a podium in front of a live TV feed.
