Shortlists for the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards for 2017 have been announced.

Celebrating the best of British regional and local newspaper journalism in 2017 in print, online and any other news platform, a full list of shortlisted entries appears below and can be seen on the awards website at www.regionalpressawards.org.uk.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony over lunch to be held at the IET, Savoy Place in London on Friday 18 May. Tickets and tables can now be booked to attend the event that celebrates excellence in the regional and local press.

The Society of Editors, supported by Camelot since 2001, organises the awards on behalf of the industry. The awards are made possible by the key sponsorship of UK Power Networks and United Utilities and continuing partner sponsorship from JTI, ASDA, Cision, Google and Foot Anstey. The Press Association, Hold the Front Page, News Media Association and the Journalists’ Charity support the Awards and we benefit greatly from their association.

The event will also see the awarding of the Making a Difference ~ People’s Choice public vote organised by Local Media Works, part of the News Media Association, for Local Newspaper Week.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by LBC radio presenter Nick Ferrari.

Chairman of the judges Paul Horrocks said: “” The depth and wide-ranging subjects displayed in the entries this year was excellent. Judges spent hours poring over the details, prompting lively debate which reflects the quality and passion of the regional and local press in the UK.

“As always, it was a difficult, but enjoyable task to separate so many outstanding, properly researched entries. The Society of Editors is delighted to be hosting these awards and raising a glass to the winners at the lunchtime event on May 18 “

For individual tickets or tables for the event please contact Angela Varley at office@societyofeditors.org or on 01223 304080. Availability is limited so please book early to avoid disappointment. Tickets for industry members are £70 (+VAT).
