The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Appeal surpasses £350,000

A financial appeal organised by The Sun newspaper for NHS frontline staff has reached over £350,000 today (April 8).

The Sun launched its £1million appeal on Friday in order to provide help for NHS frontline staff during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The paper began the drive with its own donation of £50,000 as a starting figure.

The appeal is in partnership with NHS Charities Together which aims to get vital support to NHS staff, including food and care packages for workers and their families, as well as sleep pods and rest areas for staff to take a break in. The money raised will be split between 240 local hospital charities across the country.

The Sun’s Head of PR, Olivia Utley, told the SoE: “The Who Cares Wins Appeal aims to get vital support to staff in their hour of need. We’re aiming to raise a million pounds, and are absolutely delighted with the progress of the campaign so far: in five days, our selfless readers have already donated over £250,000. The Sun and its readers are proud to be helping Britain’s heroic NHS workers.”

The Who Cares Wins Appeal has been backed by model and businesswoman Caprice Bourret who has made a generous donation to the fund.

This coronavirus campaign follows The Sun’s annual Who Cares Wins Awards for NHS heroes – usually announced in October – which celebrate staff who go beyond the call of duty to care for patients.

BRITAIN’s four million NHS staff are on the frontline in the battle against coronavirus.

But while they are helping save lives, who is there to help them?

The Sun – which each year celebrates our amazing hospital workers in our Who Cares Wins Awards – has launched an appeal to raise £1MILLION for NHS workers.

The Who Cares Wins Appeal aims to get vital support to staff in their hour of need – from providing food and care packs to giving them somewhere to sit and rest.

We have teamed up with NHS Charities Together in their urgent Covid-19 Appeal to ensure the money gets to exactly who needs it.

The Sun is donating £50,000.

And we would like YOU to help us raise a million pounds, to help THEM – the wonderful people who work in the NHS.

We know money is tight with so many jobs on the line, but for 50 years you have been Britain’s most generous readers, the ones with the biggest hearts.

No matter how little you can spare, please donate today.
