Society of Editors Conference 2016
‘In a year of dramatic change for the British media, the Society of Editors’ Conference provides a chance to take stock of key issues and to hear from some of the most innovative speakers in our industry.’ – SoE President Nick Turner
The Society of Editors travelled to Carlisle for this year’s annual conference with an agenda clearly focused on the resilience and skill of the best of british media, providing opportunities for debate, interaction and a chance to explore the very best use of digital news platforms in a constantly evolving news market.
The conference, the major annual gathering of editors and senior figures from all sectors of the media made headlines with its keynote speakers and debates on the major issues facing twenty-first century journalism.
The top names in journalism, the law and politics convened at the Halston Hotel and conference centre.
Society of Editors president, Nick Turner, digital strategy manager of the Cumbrian based CN Group, said:
“In a year of dramatic change for the British media, the Society of Editors’ Conference 2016 provides a chance to take stock of key issues and to hear from some of the most innovative speakers in our industry.
“Back in Business” will take place just a few hundred yards away from where flooding devastated Carlisle in December 2015. The city has strived to recover and rejuvenate and Cumbria is now very much back in business – not a bad metaphor for the resilience of the British media.”
As part of the conference, Google staged one of its acclaimed News Lab sessions and delegates attending the Carlisle event are bound to come away with a stack of good ideas and a fresh perspective on the major issues facing journalism.
This key arena for media debate was open to all and included a significant emphasis on professional skills and knowledge development for those responsible for effective news gathering and distribution.
The main sessions took place on Monday 17 October and Tuesday 18 October.
