Entries for the Society of Editors’ Press Awards will close on Wednesday (January 13).
There are just a few days left to be in with a chance of winning the industry’s most prestigious awards celebrating UK national journalism from 2020.
New categories for this year include awards for diversity initiatives, excellence in popular journalism and recognition of the bright ideas that have changed the face of news coverage.
The Driving Diversity Award comes in addition to the existing award for Reporting Diversity. It will recognise excellence in driving diversity in the newsroom with regard to recruitment and content – the winner will show initiative, drive and (if applicable) tangible results.
There are also new opportunities for national newspapers that produce magazines and supplements. Magazine: Popular Life looks at the lighter side of life exploring topics such as fashion, lifestyle and entertainment.
The Society has added a separate award for Special Supplement of the Year which regards one-off content produced as a newspaper supplement in 2020.
In a year of huge digital acceleration there are two new categories to celebrate innovation in national journalism.
Digital Initiative of the Year focuses on ideas that have changed the face of digital coverage in 2020.
And to mark the brilliant innovations that have made their mark in the industry, Innovation of the Year offers an award to cater for the non-digital elements of national journalism. From new supplements and sections to launches and re-launches of products, flair and imagination will be celebrated in this new category.
Entries for the Press Awards can be made for work published in print, website, online, mobile, video, audio or any other news delivery format in any UK national newspaper or any news website or platform primarily covering UK national news during 2020 (excluding broadcast media).
Submissions should be made on the awards site until midnight on Wednesday 13 January 2021.
Good luck with your entries!
