Rupert Murdoch’s forthcoming News UK TV channel has been given approval to launch by Ofcom, it has been announced.
Expected to be launched next Spring, the plans for the TV channel, previously announced in September, will see News UK launch a new TV station, which will run through primetime evening hours and comprise of three key programmes.
News UK TV, as it will be known, is contending with the Andrew Neil-backed channel GB News which is also due to be launched in the Spring.
Overseen by former Fox News and CBS News boss David Rhodes, News UK TV is likely to be free-to-air and primarily delivered online as a streaming service.
According to reports in The Guardian, the current plan is for the channel to be an evening-only service, which will be on air for around four or five hours a night. The proposed lineup will start with an early-evening politics show, a daily political debate programme and an evening news bulletin.
