Ian Hislop, the journalist, broadcaster and Editor of Private Eye, is to be presented with a Fellowship Award for outstanding contribution to journalism at the Society of Editors upcoming 25th Anniversary Conference.
Taking place in London on 30 April, the conference will see Hislop, who has edited the satirical magazine since 1986, presented with the award in recognition of his advocacy for the public’s right to know and free speech as well as the relentless campaigning work of Private Eye under his editorship including its unyielding reporting on the Post Office Horizon scandal since 2011.
Announcing the award, Dawn Alford, Executive Director of the Society said: “As the long-standing Editor of Private Eye for more than three decades, Ian Hislop has been relentless in his commitment to campaigning for the public’s right to know and public interest journalism, and we are delighted to be recognising his many achievements with the presentation of a Fellowship Award for Outstanding Contribution to Journalism at the Society’s conference later this month.”
Taking place at the Leonardo Royal London Hotel in St Paul’s, the conference will also hear from the Lady Chief Justice the Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill; Jonathan Munro, Deputy CEO of BBC News and Director of Journalism for the Corporation; Alex Crawford, Special Correspondent for Sky News, Christina Lamb, Chief Foreign Correspondent for The Sunday Times; Pippa Crerar, Political Editor at The Guardian; Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Channel 4 News presenter, BBC Analysis Editor Ros Atkins, BBC Gaza correspondent Rushdi Abualouf, Maria Breslin, Editor of the Liverpool Echo and Dylan Jones, Editor of the Evening Standard amongst others. As well as the challenges and responsibilities of reporting from the front line, other panel themes include the next steps for police and media relations, the future of journalism and AI and engaging new audiences in politics.
